Rick Rolling was a huge thing back in the days and is still an occasional office prank so when my professor gave us the opportunity to do one of my own I knew the perfect candidate. My coach, Corey Fox, wasn't very talkative and had a dry sense of humor but very sweet. In other words, an extremely qualified victim. I immediately knew I wanted to do it through email because I wanted the suspense to start off with an insane subject that made opening it irresistible but what should it be? It could say " I'm leaving" or "I got something to get off my chest" but that just wasn't doing it for me. I needed something that would knock him off his feet, something that he just wouldn't expect from me. Then it came to me, I pulled out my laptop and logged into my email. I rummaged through my email contacts for Corey Fox then opened up a new email, I let the cursor blink over the subject line as I thought of all consequences that could come after this then came my finally thought.. Yolo. "Coach, I'm pregnant" written boldly on the subject line then under it "I'm so sorry coach, I didn't mean to disappoint out" with an attachment of the"ultrasound" at the bottom. After I made sure the Rick Astley video was attached properly, I clicked send and waited on his response. Three hours passed and I still hadn't received a response so I decided to take the initiative to text him. "Sorry coach, it was a joke" and he responded promptly after " I figured, I'm just still recovering from my heart attack" and I replied back with "me too".
Black Mirror is a Netflix original series that shows the worse possible outcomes of the use our obsessive use of technology. We watched one particular episode called "Nosedive" that was about a world that based ones value off of their ranking. Ranked 1-5, people were forced to create a false persona of themselves in order to receive 5 stars during any human interaction. The main character of this episode became so obsessed with having a high ranking that it caused her ultimate downfall but also opened her eyes to a whole new life of honestly and happiness. This episode, though over exaggerated, showed how much people base their worth on social media popularity and what others think of them and those who didn't care and had "low rankings" were the happiest.
Oh my gosh I can't believe you did that! I would never have the nerve, respect to you!
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny!!!!! I'm pretty sure my coach would have killed me and then brought me back to life to make me run for a joke like that!! That is awesome.
